FACE, NECK and FOREHEAD LIFT :
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

What is a facelift?

The facelift, or facial lifting, is a surgical procedure where the face and neck are pulled and tightened.

What does Dr Fanous pull?

During the intervention, the doctor pulls the skin and the muscles under the skin. These muscles are called “SMAS”. By pulling them along with the skin, the result of the facelift lasts longer than if the skin alone is pulled.

What technique is used for the facelift?

Dr Fanous uses a new technique which he created: the “mini-dissection technique”. This technique consists of two ideas:

a) the use of very small incisions;

b) the uses of threads under the skin to pull or move the muscles without cutting them.

These special threads are programmed to disappear after two months!

The “mini-dissection” technique, on top of its effectiveness, leads to less scars, less risks and less swelling.

What kind of anesthesia is used?

For the facelift, a combination of local anesthesia and sedation is used. This is possible due to Dr Fanous’ less invasive “mini-dissection” technique.

How long does the result last?

The result from the facelift lasts a lifetime. The ‘difference’ in the appearance is permanent.

For example, a 50 years old woman that has had a facelift done will look 40 years old. This ten year difference will last a lifetime. Meaning, at 80 years old, this woman will look 70 years old!

What are the complications?

Like in the case of any other surgery, complications are possible but rare. Complications include bleeding, infection, scarring, etc.

I’m scared to look “stretched”!

You will never look stretched or artificial, and that is due to many reasons:

a) Dr Fanous uses the “mini-dissection” technique, which creates a very natural look.

b) Dr Fanous has a vast experience. He is certified by two American Boards in esthetic surgery.

c) He is a teacher at two important Canadian Universities in Quebec.

d) He has treated thousands of patients through esthetic surgeries with excellent results.

e) Dr Fanous is not only an excellent surgeon, he is also an artist; his paintings ornate the walls in his office.

Is it necessary to do a forehead lift with the facelift?

Most surgeons do only the face lift, with or without eyelid surgery.

Dr Fanous prefers to do two ‘complete lifts’ at the same time: the complete face lift and the complete forehead lift, in order to obtain a balanced and natural look. If only a face lift is done, the face will appear younger but the forehead will stay unchanged.

Is it possible to correct the eyelids at the same time as the facelift?

In the case of the upper eyelids, the excess skin of the lids is mostly due to the forehead, as the brows descend with age. And so, if the forehead lift is done before, the upper eyelid will greatly improve. In most cases, there is no need to do surgery on the eyelids after a forehead lift.

On the other hand, if the upper eyelids are corrected before the forehead, it may create the appearance of sunken eyes or a sad expression with low eyebrows.
In the case of the lower eyelids, they are often improved with the facelift.

And so, it is best to wait after the facelift and forehead lift to decided to do them or not.

Where are the incisions?

The incisions for the facelift are done inside the ears as well as in the hairline and above and behind the ears.

In the case of the forehead lift, they are extremely small and are hidden inside the hairline along the forehead.

Can a lifting of the neck be done alone?

In general, getting only the neck done is not a good idea. The neck will appear better and the face will keep its ‘old’ appearance. Also, pulling just the neck can cause more wrinkles in front of the ears than before the surgery.

Is a facelift painful?

The intervention is not at all painful. The recuperation may include a slight discomfort.

When will I be presentable?

You will be presentable two to three weeks following the surgery. There will be some small irregularities under the skin near the ears due to the knots of the threads the doctor uses during the intervention. You will need to cover the ears for the first two months after the surgery, and afterwards the threads disappear automatically and are absorbed by the body.
