TUMMY TUCK : QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Which stomach needs liposuction and which stomach needs a tummy tuck?

If the skin of the stomach sags, due to a pregnancy or a weight loss of 30 pounds or more, a tummy tuck will be done.

A patient who only requires liposuction is then; in general, somebody who hasn’t had kids and has a stomach with excess fat but with firm skin.

How is the tummy tuck performed?
Where are the incisions?
What happens to the belly button?

A liposuction is first performed to take off the excess fat, if needed. Then, Dr Fanous makes a very low incision, much lower than the regular tummy tuck technique, in the pubic hair and in the lower stomach’s fold.

The mini-dissection technique uses threads to pull the muscles. Then, the excess skin is resected. A new belly button is then created. It is more narrow and more aesthetic than the old one (which is moved lower in the shape of a small scar).

Is it painful?

There will be a slight pain and a little bit of discomfort for three to four days following the surgery.

What are the complications?

As in the case of any other surgery, complications include bleeding, infection, scarring, bleeding, etc. The probability of complications is 5%. Thanks to the mini-dissection technique, the skin of the abdomen is not completely detached like in the case of the regular technique.

What kind of results should I expect?

You will see an improvement of your stomach of about 60% or more, but not 100%. This is due to the fact that we can only make the primary incision in the lower part of the stomach. And so the upper region of the stomach, which is furthest from the incision, is less improved than the lower region.

What kind of anesthesia is used?

The anesthesia used for this surgery is the same as for all other surgeries: a local anesthesia with sedation.

You will be 80% asleep but not 100%.

When can I go back to work?
When will I see the final results?

You may go back to work or school two weeks after the operation. The final result can be seen approximately six months following the surgery.

When can I exercise again?

Generally, you may resume exercises or physical activities two months after the surgery.

What is the length of the surgery?

The surgery lasts about three hours.

Is the scar visible?

The scar in the lower part of the stomach will keep a reddish color for one to two years. In general, this scar won’t be very visible after two years.

Can a liposuction be done on other regions at the same time as a tummy tuck?

It is possible to get liposuction done around the waist or thigh areas at the same time as the intervention.

TUMMY TUCK : OTHER INFORMATION

A protuberant abdomen can be a cause of distress for men and women alike. It can be the result of excess fat, weak abdominal muscles, pregnancy, or loose skin that has been over-stretched and no longer responds to diet and exercise.

Tummy Tuck

Patients who feel they are at their ideal weight are the best candidates for a tummy tuck. Many patients combine their tummy tuck with other cosmetic procedures such as liposuction or breast augmentation.

Your procedure

There are three basic techniques used to flatten a protuberant abdomen.
Liposuction alone can produce a thin abdominal wall for some patients with firm skin but excess fat.

For those with laxity of their abdominal muscle and especially excessive skin, a tummy tuck (complete or partial) may be their only solution. A tummy tuck is usually performed under general anesthesia with the patient asleep.

The classical, complete tummy tuck done in most places involves an incision around the belly button and another long incision that runs in the lower abdomen. The entire abdominal skin is lifted and the muscle is tightened with sutures, and the excess skin and fat is removed.

The ‘Mini-Dissection’ Tummy Tuck

This ‘Mini-Dissection’ Tummy tuck is often performed on our patients using minimal dissection. With this partial tummy tuck, a smaller incision is made in the lower abdomen. Your excess skin and fat are removed through this incision. In certain cases, permanent sutures may also be placed through this incision to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. This Mini-Dissection technique allows you to return home the same day.

What will my recovery be like ?

Any discomfort that follows surgery can be controlled with oral medication. If small drains are used, they are removed the next day.
